Kerala High Court refuses bail to Madani's wife
Sufiya was named 10th accused in the case early this month.

Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Thursday refused to grant anticipatory bail to Sufiya Madani, wife of People's Democratic Party chief Abdul Nazir Madani, in a bus burning case of 2005.

Sufiya was named 10th accused in the case early this month. The first accused in the case is south India chief of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) T Nazeer, who has been arrested.

Justice KT Sankaran denied Sufiya's plea for anticipatory bail when the hearing for the case started at 1130 hours IST.

Director General of Prosecution VG Govindan Nair said there are enough evidences to point out that Sufiya was closely involved in the case. However, the counsel for Sufiya denied the allegations.

A Tamil Nadu State Transport bus was burnt in Kalamasserry after reports that Madani was ill-treated in Coimbatore jail, where he was an undertrial in 1998 Coimbatore bomb blast case.

He was, however, exonerated of the charges in 2007.
