The Karnataka High Court today
directed the state government to ensure that a final report is
submitted soon in connection with the attack on students by
activists of a right wing outfit at a private homestay in
Mangalore in July.When the PIL filed by advocate S Vasudeva came up for
hearing before the division bench, headed by Chief Justice
Vikramajit Sen, the court gave the direction and adjourned
further hearing to September 21.Earlier, the petitioner (Vasudeva) submitted that the
status report filed by police last week only disclosed that 24
persons had been arrested and remanded to judicial custody and
investigation was to yet to be completed.On August 1, the court had ordered issue of notices to
the state government, Home Secretary, Commissioner of Police,
Mangalore Rural and CBI Director on the PIL seeking a probe by
the central agency into the attack.The court had further directed the state government to
file its status report within seven days.On July 28, over 12 students, including girls,
partying at a homestay on the outskirts of Mangalore were
targetted by activists allegedly belonging to 'Hindu Jagarana
Vedike', who accused them of indulging in "immoral
activities".
