J&K forest department retrieves 12 acres forest land in Jammu
Jammu and Kashmir's Forest Department has retrieved 95 kanals of forest land from land grabbers as part of an anti-encroachment drive in Jammu district, DFO VS Senthil Kumar said.

Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir's Forest Department has retrieved 95 kanals of forest land from land grabbers as part of an anti-encroachment drive in Jammu district, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), VS Senthil Kumar said on Saturday.

The team constituted by the DFO carried out the drive on the instruction of the State government to remove encroachments from forest lands in the state.

"The Forest Department today retrieved 95 kanals of forest land during an anti-encroachment drive in Pangari area of Akhnoor tehsils in Jammu", he said.

The staff of forest department faced stiff resistance, however, it succeeded in retrieving 95 kanal of forests land from the possession of 18 encroacher's, he added.

The team dismantled boundary walls and removed the brush wood fencing put up by the encroacher's. He directed the field staff to repair the fencing in the locality so that the encroachment attempts are prevented in future.

The department is taking all measures to prevent the encroachment on forest land at every cost, Kumar said. A committee has been set up by the state government to demarcate the forest land and identify the land grabbers in Bhatindi, Sunjwan, Narwal, Sidhra of Jammu city.
