From meeting with near-fatal accidents to causing inconvenience to others, they have faced or done it all. This stays true when such people travel to foreign countries and end up creating nuisance. It is important to approach certain iconic sites around the world with utmost respect. In similar lines, a woman sparked outrage after she was spotted posing for a picture while sitting on top of the famed Hachiko statue in Tokyo.

In a video that has now gone viral, the female tourist can be seen posing for a photograph while sitting on Hachiko’s back. A man standing in front of her clicks her picture and then, the woman climbs down and takes back her phone. The video capturing her actions has stirred a row and triggered a massive social media backlash.

The video was shared on an Instagram handle with a caption, “Many were upset with her behaviour, and rightfully so.” The woman wore a violet pullover, jeans and sunglasses as she casually sat on Hachiko’s statue for the snap.

Social media users were quick to share their reactions on the comment box. A seemingly disappointed user said, “Even if she had zero clue of the history behind Hachiko, nothing would support behaving this poorly. I wouldn’t blame Japan for banning tourists like her.”

Another person wrote, “Imagine people stepping over your memorial… A statue that commemorates the deceased because people respect the spirit of the dead. Humans have lost their humanity.”

Someone also poked fun at the woman and noted, “Poor her. She forgot to pack her brain before boarding that plane!”

“This is why they are banning tourists in some areas. Stop ruining it for everyone and just stand in front of it like a normal person,” a comment read.

The saga of Hachiko’s loyalty towards his owner is not unknown to the world. The beloved dog waited at the Shibuya Station for his deceased master’s return for nine long years in the 1920s. An epitome of devotion, Hachiko is celebrated till date and his statue near the station is a popular tourist spot.
