Jaya names Pudukottai candidate

CHENNAI: The Election Commission (EC) on Tuesday announced that the by-election to Pudukottai Assembly constituency will be held on June 12. Unlike recent times, the EC has given sufficient time to the political parties for election campaign — more than 45 days. With the EC notifying the by-election, the model code of conduct has come into force in Pudukottai district with immediate effect, Chief Electoral Officer Praveen Kumar said. Taking a lead over other parties, AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa named V R Karthik Thondaman, sitting Chairman of the Pudukottai municipality as the party’s candidate for the by-election.
