WARANGAL: TRS leaders have demanded the government to accord status of a national festival for SamakkaSarakka jatara held once in two years at Medaram in Warangal district.
Station Ghanpur MLA T Rajaiah, TRS party district convener P Sudarshan Reddy and other senior members of the party visited Medaram village on Monday and interacted with the Girijans.Later speaking to newsmen Siddipet MLA T Harish Rao said that the jatara is the second largest religious gathering in the country. The jatara has been drawing huge crowds from mainly tribal dominated areas of Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh and Orissa.

Harish Rao alleged that the government has not been evincing any interest in the festival.

He also alleged that the government has been neglecting the families of the priests of the temple in the village.
