CHENNAI: It was a unique honour for two Indians from the state as they were conferred honorary doctorates by 110-year-old Italian university for bridging the rural-urban education divide and development of rural education and proficient administration strategies.The degrees of Universita Popolare Degli Studi Di Milano were presented to father-son duo --- K M Ayyanathan, chairman of ARJ Institutions, and correspondent of ARJ institutions Dr A Shivan Raj- by former Supreme Court Judge A R Lakshmanan in the presence of Dr K Pradeep Kumar, associate member of the university. Dr Shivan Raj said he was honoured to receive the doctorate from the popular university of Milan and vowed to continue his service in rural education to bridge the gap in urban and rural literacy ratio especially in female segment.“It is the need of the hour to enhance our system of rural education to make it simple and understanding to reach remote rural areas especially to target girl students,” Raj added. Lakshmanan hailed the duo for their contribution to bridge the rural-urban education divide.Meanwhile, Indian Court of Arbitration for Sports (ICAS) to resolve all sports-related disputes in India will be in place in two months, said Lakshmanan, who is also the chairman of ICAS.The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) set up the eight-member ICAS.
