Pakistan asks India not to doubt its commitment to 26/11 attack probe.

Islamabad: Pakistan is trying to mend its relations with India and has asked New Delhi not to doubt its commitment to the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack probe.

Pakistani Interior Minister Rehman Malik met the Indian High Commissioner Sharad Sabharwal in Islamabad on Saturday morning and urged India to resume dialogue with Islamabad.

Sabharwal had sought the meeting with Malik and was given an update on the Pakistani probe into 26/11 attacks.

India had put the dialogue on the back burner until there was a complete dismantling of the terror network on Pakistan soil.

Malik also told Indian High Commissioner about the need for a peaceful Indo-Pak border to boost trade and bilateral ties.

The meeting came following the release of Lashkar-e-Toiba founder and Jamaat-ud Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Mohammed Saeed, alleged to be behind the Mumbai terror attacks, from detention following a court order.

Indian External Affairs Minister S M Krishna, in an exclusive interview to CNN-IBN, has already said that he doubts Pakistan's intentions to dismantle terror networks within the country after the way Islamabad handled Saeed's release.

The talks between Malik and Sabharwal come just three days ahead of a meeting between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari on the sidelines of BRIC Summit in Russia.

Immediately after Saeed was released, India had voiced its disappointment, saying it raises serious doubts over Pakistan's sincerity in acting with determination against terrorist groups and individuals operating from its territory.

Saeed was put under house arrest on December 11 last year after the UN Security Council banned JuD, declaring it a front for Lashkar-e-Toiba, which is blamed by India for the November 26 Mumbai attacks that killed over 160 people.

Five LeT activists, including Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi and Zarar Shah, are currently being tried by an anti-terrorism court in Rawalpindi for alleged involvement in the Mumbai attacks.
