Ram Prakash will remain in jail until his papers are processed and a travel document is issued to him.

New Delhi: Indian national Ram Prakash, arrested by Pakistani authorities a decade ago on charges of spying, was released on Tuesday on completing his prison term.

However, Prakash denies that he was a spy. “When I crossed the border I had liquor with me. While returning I got caught on June 13, 1997. For one year I was under interrogation and then was kept at Lahore Jail for 10-years. When I return I will do what I used to do. I am 54 now and I won’t make such a mistake ever again.”

He was to be sent home on Tuesday since he had completed his 10-year sentence at Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat jail.

However, the Indian High Commission in Islamabad refused to accept his case because it said there was no advance information about his release from the Pakistan foreign office.

Ram Prakash will remain in jail until his papers are processed and a travel document is issued to him.
