IBM felicitates computer programming contest from India and also launches three new 'Lotus' softwares.

New Delhi: IBM India on Tuesday felicitated the winners from India, who qualified in the Asian regional rounds leading to the finals of the 31st ACM (Association for Computer Machinery) ICPC (International Collegiate Programming Contest) 2006.

India's winners were felicitated by Nobel Laureate J Georg Bednorz.

ACM-ICPC is the oldest and the largest computer programming contest in the world, and helps facilitate the recognition of upcoming high caliber engineering talent across the globe.

Catering to the needs of small and medium businesses, IT company IBM has also launched three new 'Lotus' softwares.

As part of its plans to expand Lotus' collaboration portfolio, the new softwares - IBM Lotus Connections, IBM Lotus Quicker and IBM Lotus Quicktime would mainly cater to the growing needs of the small and medium businesses (SMBs).

It would provide them a good alternative to other offerings in the market, which include software of different companies including those of Microsoft and Avaya, IBM Software Group Chief Competitive Marketing Officer Antony Satyadas said.

One of the main features of our new offerings is that it provides businesses the opportunity to choose only facilities which they require and pay only for them, he said, adding this would help the enterprises in cost cutting.

SMBs constitute about 50 per cent of the company's total revenue earnings in India and there share is growing mainly because large enterprises find it difficult to change the whole structure "lock, stock and barrel" while SMBs are still evolving and are open to install new systems, IBM Software Group Director for India and South Asia operations R Dhamodaran said.

The company also launched the new version of IBM WebSphere Portal Express - a collaborative portal solution for SMBs apart from announcing the limited availability of its 'Lotus Notes' and 'Domino 8' softwares.
