IAF flew 64 sorties in Uttarakhand today, airlifted 636 people
"We owe it to the lives our people whom we have lost, that we sustain the mission and complete it successfully," said Air Chief Marshal NAK Browne.

In a press release issued on Wednesday, the Indian Air Force said it flew 64 sorties and airlifted 636 people. "The IAF's recue and relief operations continued even after the helicopter accident of June 25, 2013," said Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal NAK Browne.

"We owe it to the lives our people whom we have lost, that we sustain the mission and complete it successfully," he said.

Browne said C 130 J undertook weather recce mission in the morning hours from Hindan for planning further helicopter operations during the day in the flood-affected region. "The IAF continued to operate from Dharasu and Pithoragarh detachments flying six Mi-17 V5s, two ALH and one Mi17 from Harsil - Maneri - Dharasu and Darchula - Milam & Kali - Ramganga river axes," he said.

The IAF since morning till about 2 pm flew 64 sorties and airlifted about 636 persons, said the press release. "The IAF since June 17, 2013 has flown a total of 1540 sorties, airlifting approximately 13,052 pilgrims dropping/landing 2,16,310 kgs of relief material and equipment," it added.
