HYDERABAD: Putting brakes on the proposed two-day Visalandra Sammelan scheduled to start from Saturday at Jubilee Hall, the city police have asked the organisers to postpone the meet in view of the prevailing law and order situation. Two press meets convened earlier in the city by the organisers of the sammelan landed in trouble with Telangana reporters taking exception to the remarks made by the speakers. The meet would not be allowed and the organisers were informed of the same, police said. The sammelan, which the organisers said would be a media workshop, was planned by Visalandra Maha Sabha, an organisation which supports unified AP. Anticipating trouble from T activists, the police denied permission for the meet. “We did not deny them permission but we have issued an order asking the organisers to postpone the meeting in view of the law and order situation,’’ central zone DCP Akun Sabharwal told Express.Police officials were of the opinion that any trouble would further aggravate the already tense situation. Trouble broke out during a press meet convened by the Visalandra Maha Sabha at the Press Club her earlier also when pro-Telangana reporters took objection to the remarks made by the speakers.Police had to intervene and a couple of reporters were allegedly beaten up by an assistant commissioner of police, LT Chandrasekhar. When the organisers held another press meet two days ago, newsmen demanded an apology from them alleging that they were abused by one of the speakers.
