Patna: In a shameful incident in Bihar, a state-level athlete was reportedly sexually assaulted at the Jehanabad railway station in broad daylight. When she protested the assault, she was beaten up.
The athlete has sustained severe injuries and has been referred to the Patna medical college for further treatment. "I was returning after practice. I was attacked and beaten up at the station. Two to three boys used to pass lewd remarks whenever they saw me," she said.
The police say that they are investigating the case. Superintendent of Police Shyali Dhurat said the woman athlete was returning home here from Gaya after attending a training programme when some youths, who also alighted from the same train, accosted her and later started beating.
The SP who had gone to meet the athlete in the hospital said she was complaining of serious pain in stomach.
