KOCHI: While noting that the Centre was teetering under various graft charges, ABVP national president Milin Marathe on Friday said high-level corruption was one of the major issues faced by the nation.While inaugurating ABVP’s four-day national executive council meet here, Marathe said,“Increasing incidents of Naxalism is another major challenge faced by the nation these days. It is not only a socio-economic issue. Instead it has become a law and order problem in the country. Naxals maintain an anti-democratic, anti-development attitude.”He added that his organisation would not support the activities of the Naxals.Touching on the education sector, Marathe said that there was rampant commercialisation of education across the country. “Commercialisation of education should be viewed seriously. The ABVP has decided to take up this issue,” he said.The government had started implementation of the Right To Education (RTE) Act. Even though there was a paucity of funds, the state governments had started implementing the Act.Referring to the killing of RMP leader T P Chandrasekharan, he said the incident revealed the brutal face of Left parties. A couple of Sangh activists were also killed as part of political murders, he said.Currently there are about seven Bills which are pending before Parliament. “The ABVP is keenly watching these Bills and the discussions over them. The national executive will discuss about the Bills and come up with suggestions which we will present before the Central government,” he said.ABVP national general secretary Umesh Dutt and state secretary M Aneesh Kumar were present.As many as 250 national executive council members from various states, including Jammu and Kashmir, Arunachal Pradesh and northeast states, are attending the meet along with national office-bearers of the organisation. In addition to the members, observer delegates from Pragik Vidyarthi Parishad, Nepal and office-bearers of the world organisation of students and youth also taking part.
