CUTTACK: The Orissa High Court on Thursday adjourned hearing of the petitions filed by villagers of Dhinkia and Nuagaon panchayats opposing the land acquisition process initiated by Jagatsinghpur district administration for Posco Steel project to June 3.The vacation bench of Justices I Mohanty and SK Mishra has directed the six petitioners to file fresh affidavits giving details of the ownership of land claimed by them with Record of Rights (RoR) by May 30. The Court had in response to the petitions filed by Debendra Swain, Tusarkanti Dalai, Pramoda Kumar Burdhan, Bairagi Nayak and Nisakar Khatua of Gobindapurand Nityananda Behera of Nuagaon had last week issued notice to both the Centre and the State for filing responses. The State Government has filed its counter affidavit.The petitioners had stated that they had not agreed to the diversion of forest land for the integrated steel plant under the Forest Rights Act (FRA) and appealed for stopping the land acquisition process in their villages until their rights are protected.The petitioners had also prayed for rejection of the letters of the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests relating to forest clearance.They alleged that in the process of land acquisition there was gross violation of human rights and theConstitution by the State administration and the company in the proposed project area.
