SIVAGIRI: The life and message of Sree Narayana Guru have inspired marginalised communities all over the world, said Karnataka Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda. Speaking after inaugurating the valedictory of the 79th Sivagiri pilgrimage here on Sunday, he said the teachings of the Guru, including ‘one caste, one religion and one god,’ are gaining more relevance in the modern times. The Sivagiri pilgrimage, based on eight principles, will give spiritual enlightenment to the participants which will help them achieve success in their lives, he said. Sivagiri is the ‘Benares of the South,’ Gowda said. The Karnataka Government’s approach is to encourage pilgrimage centres. The government has earmarked special funds for the development of pilgrim centres in the state, he said.The Karnataka Government will give land for the Sree Narayana Dharma Sangham Trust to set up a mutt in Bangalore, the Karnataka Chief Minister said. Union Minister of State for Power K C Venugopal, who presided over the function, said that the relevance of Guru’s messages were gaining more relevance on each passing day. The Guru successfully effected a social reformation process which has no parallels in the history of the country, he said. Former Irrigation Minister N K Premachandran said that the people should practice the Guru’s messages for the betterment of the world. BJP president B Muraleedharan said that the Guru taught us to face oppositions through the messages of love and peace. Sree Narayana Dharma Sangham Trust president Swami Prakashananda, Swami Rithambharananda, Swami Vishalananda, Swami Guruprasad, A Sampath MP, Varkala Kahar MLA, SNDP Yogam former general secretary K Gopinathan, Varkala municipal chairman Sooryaprakash and R Prasad attended the function.
