The Act empowers authorities to arrest anyone disturbing law and order.

New Delhi: With agitating Gurjars refusing to bow down, Rajasthan government on Tuesday clamped the National Security Act (NSA) in 15 districts affected by violence over the issue of ST status for the community.

The district collectors of Ajmer, Alwar, Baran, Bharatpur, Bhilwara, Bundi, Dausa, Dholpur, Jaipur, Jhalawar, Jhunjhunu, Karauli, Kota, Sawaimadhopur and Tonk have been empowered to arrest "anyone disturbing law and order and public peace by any act of nuisance," Principal Secretary (Home) V S Singh said.

District magistrates, who are also collectors, have been asked to take action under NSA against any suspect or if they apprehend any law and order problem.

To maintain law and order in the worst affected districts of Dausa, Bharatpur and Alwar, about 22 army columns and 76 columns of different security personnel have been deployed, Singh said.

Army said it was ready to send more troops to Rajasthan if required by civil authorities to tackle violent Gurjar agitation in addition to over 2,100 armymen already deployed there.

"Further deployment in the state depends on the requirement by civil authorities," Army Chief Gen Deepak Kapoor told reporters on the sidelines of a function here.

Eighteen columns (2,160 personnel) have already been deployed in Dausa, Bayana and adjoining areas to keep a strict vigil where Gurjar agitation for scheduled caste status had turned violent, he said.

Earlier, addressing a seminar on 'technology and anti-technology' he said, "the role and responsibility of communication is of paramount importance for the success of military operations.

He said there should be proper prosecution to check any misinformation or degraded information that could be discriminated by tampering the technology.

The minister of state for defence M M Palam Raju also underlined the relevance of technology for modernising defence forces.

He stressed on high intensity warfares and said commanders have to be more proactive and communication has to be robust.

IANS reports: Gurjar leader K S Bainsla on Tuesday demanded the resignations of the ruling BJP legislators who are members of the community in the state.

"We demand the resignation of all the Gurjar BJP leaders and ministers in the state. They must resign and join their community (in its agitation for the Scheduled Tribe status)," he added.

Bainsla was full of praise for Railway Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal president Lalu Prasad, Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, Janata Dal-United leader Sharad Yadav and Lok Janshakti Party chief Ram Vilas Paswan for speaking out in favour of the community's demand.

"We really appreciate Lalu Prasad, Mulayam Singh Yadav, Sharad Yadav, Amar Singh and Ram Vilas Paswan for speaking in favour of the community," Bainsla told IANS.
