KOCHI: Quickly acting on the complaint by the Paravoor sex scandal victim about lack of security, the Social Welfare Department on Wednesday took measures to strengthen the compound wall of the Girls Home at Kakkanad. An amount of Rs 6.65 lakh has been sanctioned for rebuilding the wall. Express had earlier reported about the lack of security at the Girls Home at Kakkanad. On Tuesday the Paravoor scandal victim filed a complaint before the Ernakulam Crime Branch about lack of security at the Children’s Home. She had complained that outsiders use to enter the home at night and the inmates were not safe there. The Executive Engineer of PWD (buildings) has confirmed that an administrative sanction was received from the Social Welfare Department for the purpose. “A notice inviting tenders to build the compound wall has been issued to the Director of Publications. As soon as the tender process is over the work will begin,” he said. Since there is some legal process involved, it will take about 45 days to initiate the work. “The work will be completed in 10 days once the formalities are over,” he said.Jayakumar, head of the Children’s (Girls) Home, Kakkanad, confirmed that they had received information from the higher-ups that the Public Works Department will do the rebuilding of the collapsed wall. The police are also taking some measures for the girls’ security.
