KARIMNAGAR: Revenue officials seized gold coins weighing 72.75 grams from farmers at Cheerlavancha in Sircilla mandal on Wednesday.The gold coins were found during weeding operations being carried out in one Guntuka Galaiah’s farm on Saturday.But following differences between the farm labourers and the farmer, the issue became public.On information, Sircilla tahsildar Venkata Mahdava Rao reached the village, enquired the farm hands about the finding and seized the coins.Later, he deposited the box at the district treasurer office.Speaking to Express, DRO Balaji Ranjit Prasad said that they would soon hand over the box to the archaeology department.According to information reaching here, Galaiah leased out his 20-gunta land to a tenant farmer who took up cotton cultivation in it.Farm labourers were carrying out weeding operations when one of them, Suvarna, found a small box with an elephant, ox and some Sanskrit script embossed on it.Getting curious, the labourers dug out the box and found that it contained 21 gold coins.
