GJM temporarily calls off strike in Darjeeling
The indefinite strike had entered its seventh day on Sunday.

New Delhi: There's some relief for the Darjeeling hills. The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM), which is agitating for a separate Gorkhaland state in northern West Bengal, suspended its indefinite strike from 1800 hrs IST Sunday till 0600 hrs IST Wednesday.

The strike, which entered its seventh day on Sunday, has brought life in the Darjeeling hills to a standstill.

The GJM is demanding talks with the Centre on separate state for Gorkhas issue.

The GJM had earlier refused the West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee's offer of talks in Kolkata. But on Saturday, GJM President Bimal Gurung said that his party would not object if the Chief Minister wanted to join the talks with the Centre in New Delhi.
