GHMC staff show no signs of backing down

HYDERABAD: The joint action committee of GHMC Workers’ Union and Bhagyanagar Municipal Employees’ Union on Monday organised a relay-hunger strike at the GHMC head-office demanding statehood for Telangana.The GHMC-JAC and BMS Employees’ Union led by its president K Shankar, additional general secretary Vinay Kapoor and others participated in the hunger-strike. They raised slogans against the State and Central governments and demanded that the UPA  government introduce the Telangana bill in Parliament. Vinay Kapoor said the Sakala Janula Samme will be continued until a separate Telangana state was carved out. For the next five days, the relay hunger strikes will be organised by the employees and workers belonging to South, Central, North, West and East zones.The union leaders also demanded that the government regularise the services of NMR employees and allot house-sites.
