New Delhi: A breath-taking, snow-covered landscape was the canvas for an unlikely subject - love. Here, travelling in a train, interacting with people, architecture and culture through the lens of a video camera, FTII student Sandhya Daisy Sundaram and her team travelled across Russia.
Sundaram's critically-acclaimed short documentary, which was a part of a programme titled 'Cinetrain' where filmmakers from across the globe set out to make documentaries while travelling in trains across Russia, won the Silver Hugo Award for Best Short Documentary at the 50th Chicago International Film Festival 2014 on October 17.
"I'm happy with the award of course," said Sundaram to IBNLive.com, "But I'm super excited about the fact that this award qualifies 'Love.Love.Love.' for the Academy Awards which will be held in 2016," she said with excitement.
Sundaram shared that in order to apply for the Academy Awards, a short documentary film needs to win one or more of the prestigious awards listed by the institute. "It is a pre-requisite," she explained, adding that her 'Love.Love.Love.' was also selected for the short documentary competition at Sundance Film Festival 2014.
Waiting for two years to know more about her Oscars fate might seem like a long time to some, but Sundaram is determined to be patient. Currently busy in shifting to Mumbai from Pune, she said that her film still has a long way to travel.
Sundaram, who passed out of Film and Television Institute of India, Pune, this year, said that her team for 'Love.Love.Love' was made up of filmmakers and students from across the world - Alexey Filippov (Russian), sound designer Marcin Knyziack (Polish), producers Tanya Petrik (Russian) and Guillaume Protsenko (French) and Sundaram, the director and editor. "For over a month, we all travelled in the harsh winter, shooting and editing on-the-go," she added.
