ALUVA: A leading football player of yesteryear, T D Titty, 53, of Thuppathil near Zeenath Theatre Junction in Aluva, died on Tuesday. The funeral will be held at the St Dominic’s Church cemetery at 10.30 am on Thursday.Titty represented the football teams of St Mary’s School, UC College and Municipal Recreation Club before joining the Premier Tyres Team. Titty played for Premier Tyres during 1979-81. Titty’s goal against Mohun Bagan in the All-India Sait Nagjee Football Tournament in Kozhikode earned him the best player award in the tournament. In his time, Titty was considered the most promising footballer in the state. His photograph was published in the front cover page of sports magazine ‘Sports Star’ in appreciation of his outstanding performance against Mohun Bagan.At the age of 21, Titty proved himself as a frontline player and played with Jaffar, Williams, P Paulose, Thambi, M M Paulose, Victor Manjila and Sethumadhavan in the Premier Tyres team. He had to retire in 1981 owing to a knee injury.Titty is survived by wife Jessy and sons Jithu and Mithu.
