Flood-hit Jammu & Kashmir eyes hefty package with PM's Diwali visit
Modi's visit is expected to warm the hearts of the residents before winter sets in in the valley.

Srinagar: Residents in Jawahar Nagar, Srinagar's worst flood-hit area, are busy clearing the debris of their collapsed homes ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit. Even as they work overtime to build a shelter above their heads, they are eager to see the Prime Minister.

"We are expecting a relief package. PM should consider this or else it will become difficult for us to survive," said Nazir Ahmad.

The floods destroyed around 400 houses in this locality. 67-year-old Muzaffar Butt is livid at the National Conference government. He blames Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for failing to expedite the relief work even as a harsh winter approaches the Valley. He hopes Modi will turn things around.

"Modi is a great leader.. a junior Vajpayee. He has lot of responsibilities. I am sure he will announce a package, says a hopeful resident.

Ever since he became Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has visited Jammu and Kashmir on four occasions.

PM's decision to share grief and anguish with flood victims especially on Diwali has raised hopes among the residents that a liberal financial aid is coming through their way. Modi's visit is expected to warm the hearts of the residents before winter sets in in the valley.
