TIRUNELVELI: Voters can use only EPICs (Elector’s Photo Identity Cards) and booth slips to cast their votes in the Sankarankoil by-election as all voters in the constituency have received their EPICs, said Praveen Kumar, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) here on Tuesday. He also warned that officials who accompany ministers during their election work would be suspended.Pravin Kumar told reporters that filing of nominations for the by-election would start from Wednesday. The CEO who held discussions with representatives of political parties regarding steps to be taken to conduct the by-election in a free and fair manner, said that the first round of checking of EVMs would be done on Thursday. “Training for poll personnel will be held thrice and the first session will be on Thursday. Twenty five zonal officers have been appointed,” he added.Asked about the Model Code of Conduct being enforced throughout Tirunelveli district, he said if an election was conducted in a constituency, the model code would be enforced in the whole district. “As 12 villages, which come under the Sankarankoil constituency, fell in Thoothukudi district, the code will be in force in that district too,” he added.When newsmen pointed out that Sankarankoil constituency was facing less power cuts when compared to other parts of the district, Pravin Kumar said that he take up the issue with the TNEB. However, to overcome power cuts generators and petromax lights would be used in polling booths, he added.
