PUDUCHERRY: The Puducherry unit of the BJP, on Wednesday, urged the Ponlait authorities to ensure sufficient supply of the blue packets (toned milk) to meet the demands of the public for milk.Party state secretary R V Saminathan said the blue packets, costing `10.50 for half a litre, were in great demand but were in short supply. The BJP leader alleged that the blue packets were sold to the commercial establishments and hotels which consumed around 2000 litres a day. Saminathan added that the packets on arrival early in the morning at the outlets of Ponlait were being sold only for an hour to the public.Saminathan charged that the Ponlait officials were more interested in selling the blue packets to the commercial establishments than to the public. When contacted, sources in Ponlait said Puducherry depended on other states for milk, which was in short supply because of the lean season and hence a shortage.
