Engineer falls off office building, dies

CHENNAI: An employee of the Tamil Nadu State Agricultural Marketing Board (TNSAMB) was killed, when he slipped and fell from his office building at Guindy on Monday.An assistant engineer with the Board, 42-year-old B Bhaskaran underwent brain surgery nearly a year ago, Inspector Muralidharan told Express. A resident of Subramanian Swamy Koil Street in Saidapet, he was posted in Kancheepuram and commuted daily to office in his car. The engineer reported once or twice a week to the headquarters located in Guindy, he said.On Monday, the engineer arrived at the head office on SIPCOT Road in his car around 9.45 am. He asked his driver to come around noon to take the vehicle to a workshop for repair, the officer said. The official then made his way to the terrace of the building, when he accidentally slipped and plunged two floors down to his death. He is survived by his wife, Usha Rani (37), and two sons, the inspector said.The Guindy police sent the body to the government hospital in Royapettah for autopsy and registered a case of accidental death.
