Thane Police lodged an FIR against a 23-year-old woman for allegedly using counterfeit documents to procure a passport to travel to Pakistan. According to police sources, the woman, accompanied by her daughter, travelled to Pakistan after obtaining a fake passport and visa based on falsified paperwork. The Vartak Nagar Police registered a case under the Indian Passport Act and other relevant statutes against the woman and an unidentified individual who aided in the creation of the forged documents, reported news agency ANI.
Identified as Nagma Noor Maqsood Ali, also known as Sanam Khan, the primary suspect reportedly acquired a fraudulent Aadhar card, PAN card, and birth certificate for her minor daughter. These documents were purportedly used in her passport application, as confirmed by an official from Vartak Nagar Police Station. According to reports, the woman recently travelled to Pakistan for her boyfriend who she met online. Reports suggest that after meeting on Facebook, the woman went from Thane to Pakistan and got married to her boyfriend in Abbottabad (Pakistan).
Sanam Khan utilised fake documents to obtain her passport and visa, subsequently traveling to Pakistan where she resided for approximately one and a half months before returning to India. The police have stated that the offense occurred between May 2023 and 2024. Khan has been apprehended and the investigation is ongoing.
Authorities suspect that an unidentified accomplice assisted her in acquiring falsified credentials to travel to Pakistan. The matter came to light when she returned to India, leaving officials baffled and prompting immediate action. The police are probing why she went to Pakistan, who facilitated her travel, and the motive behind her actions, stated a police official from Vartak Nagar Police Station, where she is currently under interrogation.
The officer disclosed that the suspect, altering her identity, acquired crucial documents such as Aadhaar card, PAN card, and her daughter’s birth certificate from a centre in Lokmanya Nagar. These falsified documents were subsequently utilised in her application for a passport.
Her husband, identified as Maqsood Ali based on his previous name, is also under scrutiny due to limited information available to the police about him, reported ANI. In her initial statement to Thane Police, Sanam Khan claimed that she had befriended an individual online, leading to her decision to travel to Pakistan.
Using fake credentials, she successfully secured a passport and visa for Pakistan, where she travelled thereafter, as stated by the officer. Sources indicate that the fraudulent activities occurred between May 2023 and July 2024. It was a serious breach under the Indian Passport Act, and both Nagma Ali and her accomplice are facing legal consequences, added the officer, highlighting the severity of the charges.
