It was close to eleven o'clock. I was at the railway station in Pune. I did not have the plane ticket yet and I had 124 rupees in the pocket of my blue kimono, which would be about 3 US dollars.
I decided to go to Delhi that day, by plane.
I hired a rickshaw and told him to drive quickly, because my plane leaves soon. I intended to board the Spice Jet flight that leaves at 1:30 pm. We have bargained for the price, while he was driving me. I thought he wanted to charge me too much. Then something happened in me.
"I have an idea for you," I turned to the driver.
"Yes, sir?"
"It may sound a little bit crazy, but I want you to think about it," I continued and I obviously caught his attention. "Tell me, how much do you earn per day?"
"Oh sir, about a hundred rupees. Sometimes up to two hundred. But usually about hundred and fifty."
"Ok, I tell you one thing. When we reach the airport, I will give you all the money I have, if you promise me something."
This time he seemed very intriguied and I made a short pause, while I held his shoulder. He inquiered me to tell him more.
"Look, I have about 130 rupees and I will give you this money if you promise you will not charge anyone today. Anyone that comes to you, offer him a free ride and then ask him for donation. If he wants to give you something, ok. If not, you do not loose anything, since you have received your daily earning from me," I started explaining.
I told him to count the money he will get from donations in the evening and if the number reaches 200, he do this same thing the next day. He spoke very good English and he seemed a very aware person.
However, he still did not believe, I would really do what I said. When we reached the airport, I handed him all the money I had in my pocket and he was really moved. He hugged me and promised me he will do as I suggested to him.
I did not arrive to Delhi that day. I couldn't and shouldn't have arrived, because I had to meet some very special persons the following day.
Eventually I did reach Delhi. I spoke with people in the President's office and today his secretary told me that it would be possible to meet the President if he hadn't had to leave abroad tomorrow. His secretary said If I waited for 10 to 15 days, I would be able to see him.
But I will not wait. I see it as a message and I feel I have to move on. My path should not meet with the path of Dr Kalam yet. I am happy he personally read my letter, though.
I wish I could be in touch with more people more frequently. I also desire to connect all the amazing people I met on my way and now I announce that I FOUND THE WAY HOW TO DO IT!
