A Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus conductor was arrested for selling fake tickets to passengers in Delhi to earn money for paying the monthly instalment of a vehicle he bought, police said on Tuesday.

Amit Kumar, in his 30s, who is deputed at Ambedkar Nagar bus depot, was on Monday caught red-handed with the fake tickets during a surprise check conducted by a DTC ticket checking team.

"The ticket checking team recovered a bundle of fake tickets along with original tickets. Kumar was later handed over to police," said a police officer.

DTC officials said that the fake tickets of Rs 5 to 10 were recovered from the possession of Kumar.

"Kumar had purchased a vehicle few months ago with a loan from a bank. To pay monthly instalments for the vehicle, he chose this way," said the officer, adding the conductor photo-copied the DTC tickets, mixed them with the real tickets, and started giving them to passengers.

Police are probing if some other people were involved in the racket.
