KOCHI: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has drafted a proposal to relocate the bus bays at Ernakulam North Junction in connection with the road widening for Metro Rail-related project. Likewise, the bus bays at the Lissie Hospital junction will also be shifted. District Collector P I Sheik Pareeth said the proposal was verified by the district administration and would be finalised after consulting with the Kochi Corporation officials. “It is just a proposal. It will be presented before the Kochi Corporation authorities and other officials concerned. What the department offered was a technical verification,” he said.The collector added that as per the proposal, the bus stops in front of the Paramara temple and the town hall would be relocated to the nearest link roads. “About 3 mts of land will have to be acquired in front of the Town Hall where a service road will be build. This will enable the vehicles coming from the North Railway Station to pass through this service road via North ROB and reach Kaloor, thus helping in easing the traffic congestion along the ROB. P Sreedhar, Project director, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, DMRC also visited the site along with the District Collector.Regarding the land acquisition to widen the Banerjee Road to 22 meters and the Jose Junction-South Railway Station Road to 18 metres, the District-level Purchase Committee has informed the land owners that they would be paid a compensation amount of Rs 31.35 lakh a cent. In the meeting held on Saturday, Sheik Pareeth said procedures had been initiated for land acquisition and the owners who are ready to give their land will be compensated at the earliest.
