A local DMK functionary was arrested here on Thursday for making derogatory remarks against Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa during a public meeting.
On Tuesday night, the DMK organised a public meeting to explain the outcome of the Tamil Eelam Supporters Organisation (TESO) conference, at Eekattuthangal.
While addressing the meeting, DMK functionary DV Narasimman allegedly used abusive words against the CM. Police, who videographed the entire event, chose to file a case against the DMK man for his remarks.
A case under Sections 294 (obscene acts and songs: sings, recites or utters any obscene song, ballad or words, in or near any public place), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 505 (statements conducing to public mischief) of the IPC was registered. Narasimman was arrested early on Thursday.
