HYDERABAD: A dentist, who is also a professional shooter, opened fire at a robber gang that broke into his house in the small hours of Saturday killing one. Another gang member was caught by the locals while he was fleeing while the other gangsters are said to have escaped.Dr Naresh Reddy, in whose house in Plot No.25, Bharani layout, Jubilee Hills, the incident had occurred, is said to have opened three rounds of fire with his 12 bore SBBL on the miscreants when they were trying to escape by jumping over the iron fence of the house. A bullet hit one of the assailants, identified as Murali.Murali and his accomplice, Siva, entered the duplex house around 1.30 a.m by smashing the bullet-proof window panes in the rear of the house with a stone even as their associates, at least 12 of them, were reportedly waiting outside in auto-rickshaws. Woken up by the sound, watchman Lakshman quickly alerted Naresh Reddy who was asleep on the top floor. Naresh quickly picked up his weapon and came down to the ground floor. On seeing Reddy, the robber duo dropped the valuables - a laptop and silver ornaments among other items that they had picked up. Murali hurled a stone at Reddy who then opened fire. Both took to their heels but Reddy chased them and opened another round of fire as they were trying to jump over the iron fence. This time a bullet pierced through Murali’s chest and he dropped dead. Siva managed to jump over but was caught by locals. On a complaint by Dr Reddy to the Jubilee Hills police, police commissioner A K Khan along with west zone DCP Stephen Ravindra visited the spot. “Naresh Reddy shot in self defence,” Khan told waiting newsmen. A case under section 302 has been booked against the doctor.
