HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam has demanded Congress MLA K Chiranjeevi to declare his stand on the lease of Bhavani islands in Vijayawada.Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, TDP MLA Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao dared Chiranjeevi to announce his stand on the island lease by Thursday. Alleging that Chiranjeevi was a benami in the lease contract, Uma Maheswara Rao said that the proposed construction of a five-star hotel and a studio by Allu Aravind in Bhavani Island would obstruct the course of river Krishna and pose a threat to the Prakasam Barrage. “The water could get polluted depriving drinking and irrigation water. The construction of a hotel and studio will be a death knell to Krishna delta farmers,” he said. The lease to develop Bhavani island was given to a shipping company owned by Chiranjeevi’s close aide and minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao, he alleged. However, the minister said there was nothing fishy in the lease agreement and prepared for a debate on the same in the Assembly. The process began when he was in TDP, the minister recalled.
