Visakhapatnam: Three doctors were injured after relatives of a patient, who died due to alleged medical negligence, attacked the staff at the government-run King George Hospital Sunday in the city.
The chief medical officer was among the injured in the attack while six doctors and other staff ran out of the hospital for safety.
Tension prevailed at the hospital as relatives of the patient barged into the office of chief medical officer and beat him up.
The relatives of one Srinivas Rao alleged that he died as the doctors did not provide timely and proper medical care and even demanded a bribe from them.
They held a sit-in demonstration at the hospital.
Rao, who was injured in an accident in Vizianagarm district, was shifted to the hospital around 0900 hrs IST, but died while being treated, said the hospital superintendent, Varalakshmi.
Denying he died due to negligence by doctors, she said Rao was brought in a critical condition.
The incident evoked strong protest from the medical fraternity.
Doctors and medical staff refused to resume duties till they were provided security.
Police rushed to the hospital to bring the situation under control.
