Siverline Hospital, Kochi, has launched its Carniomaxillofacial Aesthetic Surgery Unit on Wednesday.
The unit will be led by Dr Varghese Mani MDS who is also known as the father of Orthognathic surgery in the state.
The unit will also have four other expert doctors in the field of Orthognathic Surgery. Tom Babu, medical director of Silverline Hospital, said that Carniomaxillofacial Aesthetic Surgery is the branch that deals with correction of facial deformities like ‘surgical straightening of the jaw’.
Undergoing the surgery, patients can rectify the facial asymmetries, cleft palate and lips, Carniofacial Syndromes, difficulty in mouth opening due to mouth opening and maxillary skeletal protrusion and retrusion.
According to Dr Varghese Mani, the facial disproportion due to accidents and by birth can be easily corrected with the surgery. “The surgery would cost from `60,000 to `2 lakhs depending on the surgery to be conducted. This is not like facial skin surgery, the correction is made on the bones in the face and structure of it can be changed.
