KRISHNAGIRI: The Periyar University has decided to initiate action against a private college’s staff for their alleged involvement in helping students copy during semester examinations, sources said on Friday.Semester exams are currently being held in arts and science colleges attached to the university and over two lakh students from 75 colleges are appearing for examinations in Salem, Namakkal, Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts.College principals are appointed chief supervisors for their respective examination centres, while the university appoints a member of the teaching faculty from its side as a deputy supervisor.On Thursday evening, Salem-headquartered Periyar University’s Vice-Chancellor Muthu Chezhian reportedly found two students copying in a private college in Krishnagiri, during a surprise visit to various exam centres. Consequently, the guilty students were asked to leave the examination hall. Following the incident, the Vice-Chancellor demanded that the college administration take action against the principal of the college and the exam hall supervisor, sources said. Chezhian has recommended action against the University-appointed deputy supervisor, who was not present at the centre at the time of the incident.The V-C is also said to have asked the university’s disciplinary committee to look into the incident and take action against the guilty students and staff.
