KHURDA: As many as 54 persons were arrested following a clash over religious conversion at Chutipalanga under Khurda police limits on Sunday.Sources said around 50 activists under the banner of Samajika Mancha, a social organisation, were trying to convert tribals in villages of Chutipalanga, Ratamati, Bagalpur and Badhasahi for the last few days. The activists had even allegedly assaulted tribals who refused to convert.On Sunday, however, the Manch members’ move was protested by people of Chutipalanga leading to a clash.Police rushed to the spot and arrested 54 members from both the groups. Two platoons of police force have been deployed at the village to avoid any untoward situation.
