Chennai: During its current session, the Tamil Nadu Assembly will pass a resolution in support of reservation.
The move is a means to convey its full support to the Centre in implementing 27 per cent reservation for OBCs in elite educational institutions.
That's not all. The session will also see the government bringing in a legislation for providing mandatory reservation for Dalits and Other Backward Classes in unaided non-minority self-financing educational institutions, governor S S Barnala announced in the state assembly during his inaugural address on Wednesday.
A legislation to provide reservation for Christians and Muslims in educational institutions and in government services would also be introduced soon, he said.
A Bill to repeal the Forcible Religious Conversion Act and another to revoke the Tamil Nadu Essential Services Maintainance Act would also be brought during the current session.
Distribution of free colour television sets to the poor would start from September 15 and would be implemented in a phased manner, he said.
He demanded that the Centre fully implement the interim award of the Cauvery water disputes tribunal.
The Mettur Dam would be opened for irrigation on June 12 to help the Cauvery delta farmers.
The government would constitute a committee of educationists to recommend suitable measures for abolition of common entrance examinations for professional courses from next academic year, he said.
All government schools would be provided with computers in a phased manner, while college fees, increased manifold by the AIADMK government, would be reduced, he said.
