CHENNAI: Chennai airport witnessed high drama and chaos late on Thursday, after an airline’s call centre received a bomb threat call from an unusual caller, a toddler. The call was later found to be a hoax. According to police, a toddler called and informed the Indigo airline’s call centre officials that there was a bomb at the airport.Inter Globe Technology at Mettukuppam that operates the all India customer care centre for Indigo airlines, received a call at around 10 pm on Thursday, police said. Its employee heard a toddler speaking in Hindi and passed the phone to a colleague proficient in the language, sources added.“The baby said the words ‘bomb in flight’ and the line got disconnected. It looked as if someone was urging the toddler to speak on the other side,” a police official said.The employees immediately informed their seniors, who alerted airline and airport authorities, cops said.Meanwhile, R Hasan Sherif, manager of the call centre lodged a complaint with the police following which a community service register was given. With only four flights scheduled for departure early on Friday and all of the airport thoroughly searched, police said. “It was found to be a hoax. We are tracing the call and are sure it came from outside TN. When call centre employees called the number, a woman answered and spoke in Hindi, but disconnected the line. We are investigating,” said Thoraipakkam inspector Christein Jayasil.
