CHENNAI: Asking the Prime Minister to advise the Central Electricity Authority to postpone its proposal to tighten grid frequency, a move which would put a Rs 350 crore hole in the pocket of the already debt-ridden Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO), Chief Minister Jayalalithaa wrote to him on Sunday and said it could be considered in future when the demand-supply situation and inter-state connectivity in the country improved.“Considering the prevailing power situation, such a drastic move is totally unwarranted at this stage. Further, this may result in increasing the duration of enforced load shedding in TN causing irreparable loss to consumers, particularly in rural areas, which may adversely affect agricultural production and growth,” she said. Informing the PM that a letter from the State Electricity Minister (January 23) to Union Power Minister did not yield result, she told him that the TANGEDCO had been forced to petition the High Court to get interim relief for the possible damage.
