CHITRADURGA: The Supreme Court constituted Central Empowered Committee (CEC), which is studying the environmental impact of mining in various parts of the state, visited Chitradurga and held a meeting of highlevel officials at the deputy commissioners’ office here on Saturday evening.The team led by P V Jayakrishnan held preliminary discussions with officials on the plans and procedures to be implemented while conducting the survey as per the instructions of the Supreme Court.Informed sources in the department of mines and geology told Express that the survey will be held next week in Chitradurga, Hosadurga and Holalkere taluks — where mining activities were active in the district.The CEC team instructed officials to conduct the survey as per the instructions of the Supreme Court.Apart from Jayakrishnan, PCCF Deepak Sharma, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Dr U V Singh and Director of Department of Mines and Geology H R Srinivas and other officials were among those present at the meeting.
