“The Cauvery water dispute is affecting everyone in the state directly or indirectly, and all the residents of Bangalore should take part in the stir,” Balagangadharanatha Swamiji of Adi Chunchanagiri Mutt said on Tuesday.
He was speaking at a meeting called by leaders of various political parties and organisations to stop the release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.
He said the problem was not limited only to Mysore and Mandya, it was a problem of the entire state and Bangalorians should come forward to take part in the protests.
“We are ready for any kind of sacrifice, and at present a temporary solution is needed.
Later, we have to find a permanent solution.
If the state releases water to Tamil Nadu the people in Bangalore and farmers in 11 district will face serious problems in the coming days.
” He said legal experts in the state should come forward to fight this case in the Supreme Court and political leaders have to clearly explain the problem before the Cauvery River Authority (CRA) and to the prime minister.
Forest Minister C P Yogeshwar said the apex court had given a directive to the state to release water, and hence the state was releasing water.
It would not be possible to stop it immediately, and the government would file a review petition before the SC in two days.
Referring to the PM’s order to release water to TN, actor-turned-politician Ambareesh said even an illiterate person would not pass such an order.
They thought Karnataka was a different country, but Karnataka’s contribution to the country was significant, he said and termed the PM’s decision an injustice.
Senior advocate Pramila Nesargi said the state could file a review petition in the SC.
Shivaratri Deshikendra Swamiji of Jagadguru Sri Shivaratreeshvara Mutt, Nanjavadootha Swamiji of Spatikapuri Mutt and MLAs, MLCs and MPs from various political parties and activists were present.
