HYDERABAD: BJP state president G Kishan Reddy, allIndia secretary B Dattatraya, and national executive members N Indrasena Reddy and J Syam Kishore met chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy at his camp office here on Monday and urged him to rescue farmers and agricultural labourers in droughtaffected areas of the state.
The delegation submitted a memorandum to the chief minister on the severe drought and the problems of farmers. Kishan Reddy said groundnut, maize, blackgram, green gram and soya crops were damaged due to scanty rainfall. Besides, the cotton yield had come down drastically, he said and added that frequent power cuts were also one of the reasons for crops drying up. The drought situation was severe in 750 mandals but the government declared only 555 as droughtaffected, he said.

Kishan Reddy said groundnut, maize, cotton and other crops were damaged in 50 lakh acres, and paddy and other crops to a large extent. Tenant farmers were not getting even bank loans and crop insurance, he noted and complained that though the situation was serious, officials failed to visit droughtaffected areas. He urged the chief minister to boost the morale of the farmers in drought areas.

Among the party's other demands are bonus of `200 for paddy crop and free supply of 100 kg of rice to each family of agricultural labourers and employment to them.
