BANGALORE: Seeking clarification from the BBMP Commissioner on the khata system being followed by the Corporation, JD(S) Opposition leader, Padmanabha Reddy raised the issue of the misuse of ‘B’ khata by BBMP.He demanded an explanation from Commissioner Siddaiah and asked him to distinguish between ‘A’ khata and ‘B’ khata.He said that BBMP officials have been collecting taxes by issuing ‘B’ khata for revenue sites. He pointed out that this was being done even though there is no mention of a ‘B’ khata in the Karnataka Municipal Corporation Act.Commissioner Siddaiah explained that what is known as the ‘B’ khata is actually the ‘B’ register, which is mentioned in the KMC Act. The Opposition Leader said that people were being misled and allowed to construct houses by issuing a ‘B’ khata.The Commissioner however, said that it was the sub-registrar’s responsibility and not the Council’s.‘Mobile Towers Can Bring Revenue’Pointing out the failure of the legal cell in identifying potential revenue for the BBMP, Yediyur Corporator N R Ramesh in the council meeting on Wednesday said that mobile antenna towers are potential revenue earners.He said that the corporation was eligible to collect rent from the 8550 mobile antenna towers owners in the city. Earlier, due to a stay order BBMP was prevented from collecting rent from private land owners housing mobile antenna towers. He pointed out that the legal cell should be revamped to vacate the stay.
