BANGALORE: The High Court on Tuesday directed the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) to allow students of BMS College of Architecture to appear for their examinations. The B M Srikantaiah College of Architecture had started a new course on architecture which was approved by All India Council of Architecture (AICA). However, the VTU and All India Centre for Technical Education (AICTE) objected to the course and withdrew the timetable issued by the college citing a circular dated September 19, 2011, which makes VTU and AICTE permission mandatory for starting any course. The petitioners moved court stating that four High Courts have ruled that AICTE approval is not mandatory for starting the course as the AICA was established much before AICTE came into existence.
