Bangalore doctor honoured

Dr P R Rajagopalan, a Bangalorean was recently recognised and honoured by the people of South Carolina, USA, the order of the palmetto state’s highest civilian honour, in recognition of his contribution to the medical field in the last four decades.Dr Rajagopalan has done extensive research on important health issues, such as kidney disease and transplants and has been an incredibly effective leader to his patients and colleagues, as an educator, physician and friend. Dr Rajagopalan has earlier been honoured with Lifetime Achievement and Teaching Award, by Chief Resident Class OF 2007, on behalf of all past and Future Surgery Residents at Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC).The doctor worked with the University of Columbia for the first four years of his career, and later joined Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), where he is working now. In 1998, in the silver Jubilee year of transplant, Dr Rajagopalan was honoured by the medical university for the 1,800 kidney transplants that he has conducted. His also received an honour from the Low Country Branch of Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in Charleston in South Carolina.Although he has been practicing medicine in US for over 40 years now, he has contributed to the Indian medical scene too.Dr Rajagopalan makes it a point to come to his hometown Bangalore once a year.He attends several medical meetings in different parts of the country during his visits.He says that what he wishes to share the knowledge and expertise, he has acquired so far, with the society through this career.He has also helped in setting up Bharat Biotech International Ltd in Hyderabad 10 years ago and has also helped in the facility development of two transplant units in the country- one at Madars Mission Hospital in Chennai and another at Global Society in Hyderabad.
