Mumbai: At least six people died and two others got injured after a three-storey building collapsed in Kamathipura area in Mumbai on Saturday.
The injured people were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital.
Five persons were rescued from the debris of the building in Kamathipura area of Grant Road, which caved in at around 2 pm, a Fire Brigade official said.
Two of the injured succumbed to injuries at JJ Hospital and Nair Hospital, according to BMC Disaster Control Room officials.
Eight fire engines and three ambulances have been deployed for rescue operations to save those still trapped in the rubble.
A fire officer said, "The nearby building has got cracks. We have deployed 10 of our vehicles and one rescue vehicle. The place is very congested, rescue work was very difficult."
Meanwhile, Congress MLA Amin Patel blamed the incident on the apathy of the government, saying, "Why didn't MADA take action if the building was so delicate, what were they waiting for?"
The structure housed a beer bar and a factory, among others.
