THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The fire that broke out at Connemara market in Palayam on Wednesday doesn’t seem to be a sabotage attempt, according to the City Police. The fire had gutted down as many as 15 shops, causing a loss of over Rs 10 lakh to the vendors at the market. Police sources said that they have not received any evidence so far that supported the theory of arson, as alleged by the vendors and shopkeepers at Connemara market. However, the police have still not dismissed the possibility of arson, as similar incidents have occurred in the past too.Forensic experts had visited the spot on Wednesday and collected evidence. They also dismissed the possibility of sabotage in their primary examination owing to lack of evidence. But no official communication has been made in this regard. The police also said that the fire might have started from a burning cigarette butt thrown away by someone who was sleeping in the market.  Meanwhile, the Cantonment Police produced a set of articles collected from the spot of the mishap before the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court-III on Wednesday. These articles collected from the shops, including a kerosene lamp, will be handed over to the Forensic Department for detailed examination. Only after the examination will the exact cause of the fire be ascertained.
