Arrest warrant against film producer

CHENNAI: A magistrate court here has issued a bailable arrest warrant against S Mahendra Kumar of Kesava Iyer Street in Park Town area, directing the Elephant Gate police to secure and produce him in the court on Jan 24, 2012. VII Metropolitan Magistrate in GT issued the warrant on Dec 15 while entertaining a criminal complaint from financier Mohan Kumar of Choolai.According to Mohan Kumar, Mahendra Kumar, a film producer (who produced Tamil feature film Renigunta) had borrowed Rs 5 crore in December, 2006. As a part of the liability, Mahendra Kumar issued 10 post-dated cheques in June, 2008 for Rs 17.50 lakh each.However, when the cheques were presented for encashment in June 2008, all the cheques bounced with the endorsement `not sufficient funds’.After completing necessary formalities, including issuance of a legal notice, Mohan Kumar moved the magistrate court in 2008 seeking  punishment to Mahendra Kumar for an offence under Sec 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act.
